Last month, I received a call from a concerned family seeking assistance in finding the right senior care facility for their loved one. This family had a unique situation, and there were some challenges indeed.
The senior they were looking to place had a complex set of needs. He suffered from a combination of physical disabilities and Alzheimer's disease, making his situation particularly delicate. The family's top priority was to ensure that he received excellent care while preserving his quality of life and dignity.
They were adamant about finding a senior care facility that specialized in Alzheimer’s / dementia care, with staff who were not only trained to handle such cases but also genuinely compassionate. This facility needed to offer activities that enhanced memory and provide a secure environment to prevent the senior from wandering, which was a significant concern.
Moreover, the family they were worried about how he would adapt to a new living situation. This transition had to be as smooth as possible, taking into account the senior's comfort and emotional well-being.
Adding another layer of complexity, the family had a limited budget. They were concerned about how to make quality care affordable. It was my responsibility to explore various financial resources to help them achieve their goal without breaking the bank.
I began my research for the right memory care facility and financial resources available.
Finally, after a few days, we found a senior care facility that seemed like the perfect fit. It specialized in dementia care, had highly trained staff, and provided a secure and comforting environment. The facility's commitment to preserving the senior's quality of life aligned perfectly with the family's wishes.
We also worked closely with the facility to ensure that the transition was as smooth as possible.
To address the family's financial concerns, and since this senior was a war era Veteran, we explored the Veteran’s benefits Aid & Attendance. The senior was able to receive an extra $2200 a month from the Aid & Attendance Program. We were able to find a solution that made quality care affordable for the family.
In the end, the family was relieved to have found a senior care facility that not only met but exceeded their expectations. They were comforted by the knowledge that their loved one would receive excellent care and be surrounded by compassionate professionals who understood his unique needs.
This story is a testament to the power of dedication and collaboration between families and senior care advisors like me. It highlights the importance of finding the right balance between the right care and quality of life for seniors, even in the most challenging situations.
